Opera on Tap (OOT) was born in 2005 at Freddy’s Bar and Backroom in Brooklyn and incorporated in 2007 to promote opera as a viable, living and progressive art form and to support the developing artists who continue to keep the art form alive. What began as a small monthly gathering of ambitious, classically trained singers looking for more performance opportunities, has grown into a producing organization that has gained a loyal audience base and national recognition as an innovative force on the classical music scene. Through its Chapter program, which now has twenty-three vibrant national chapters, OOT has created a large network of performers, creators, and supporters.

🤡 Featuring our Stage Director for Pagliacci: Ryan Colbert!

Soprano and director Ryan Colbert has been praised for “rendering text with a touching tenderness” (Berkshire Fine Arts) and making "a feast of quirky dramatic contrasts...while smoothing it with a velvety vocal line” (ArtsKnoxville). Recent credits include Magda Sorel (The Consul) with Prismatic Arts Ensemble and Liberty City Arts, the title role in Suor Angelica with Art City Opera, Sappho in the world premiere of Patricia Wallinga’s The Sisters and Witch (Hansel and Gretel) with Liberty City Arts, and Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus) with Opera Magnifico and Concert Operetta Theatre. As a director, Colbert has been noted for “adding a quirky, idiosyncratic flavor.” Upcoming and recent directing credits include Viardot’s Cendrillon with Bel Cantanti Opera, Pagliacci, a critically acclaimed sold out run and Philadelphia premiere of Melissa Dunphy’s Alice Tierney, Hansel and Gretel, Peter Hilliard’s The Filthy Habit with Opera on Tap Philadelphia. She currently serves as Artistic Director of Delaware Valley Opera Company and Co-manager of Opera on Tap's Philadelphia chapter.
