π¨ Following the escalating violence, the humanitarian crisis in is deteriorating by day. In over a week, around 700, 000 people have been displaced and have found refuge in collective shelters, many of which are already at full capacity. The country was already struggling after years of compounding crises β economic turmoil, political instability and repeated cycles of armed conflict. This latest escalation is pushing many Lebanese beyond their ability to deal with , and .
On the frontline, Good Shepherd sisters and partners in Beirut have acted swiftly to respond to the most urgent needs of the affected population, providing essential medical care and medicines, along with mattresses, hygiene kits, food and water. For displaced families living in overcrowded shelters, these items are critical to mitigate health risks and help restore dignity. The emergency response also includes psychosocial and education support β especially for children who face heightened risks of trauma due to displacement and violence.
We hold in our hearts and prayers all the people closely touched by the escalating violence. We stay in close contact with sisters and partners on the ground, working alongside them every day to mobilize a full emergency response and ensure the broadest possible access to essential services. As the crisis shows no sign of easing, GSIF commitment to supporting the relief efforts in Beirut through the Good Shepherd community social and health services remains steadfast.
