Happy International Coffee Day☕️! Did you know that many of the birds migrating from the United States this month will spend the winter in Ecuador and other South American countries? We are excited to be working on our Bird Friendly certification training and planting in a way that benefits wildlife and our community 🦜🌳☕️
Did you know that across the world, people drink 2 billion cups of coffee every day?
Many coffee drinkers are unaware of the impact of drinking coffee on wildlife. 3/4 of the world's coffee is grown on sun-grown coffee farms, which requires clearing the land and removing the forest canopy along with the resources it provides. The effects are especially felt by migratory birds who depend on forest habitats in Central and South America during the winter.
Luckily there is an alternative - shade-grown coffee! Shade-grown coffee is grown on farms that continue to plant trees and ground cover, supporting greater biodiversity and sustaining healthy ecosystems.
