Today, we celebrated our EmpowerHER graduates! 🎓

These talented young women gained hands-on experience in construction, clean energy, aviation, and drone technology—building skills and confidence for their next chapter.

A special thank-you to our keynote speaker, Doreen M. Harris, President and CEO of New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, and guest speaker Nse Esema, Senior Advisor for Economic Growth at the NYC Mayor's Office, for sharing their experiences, insights, and encouraging words with our graduates as they prepare to take their next steps.

Thank you to our program partners—Con Edison, Haugland Group, Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW), and Drone Cadets—for making this experience possible. We are also grateful to Assemblymember Brian Cunningham, Council Member Alexa Avilés, and State Senator Andrew Gounardes for joining us in celebrating and recognizing our graduates.

doesn’t always happen in a straight line—and sometimes, the most meaningful step is returning.

Josefina first joined at our former Myrtle/Wyckoff location. After being injured at work, she continued attending class despite experiencing significant pain, determined to improve her English. When the COVID-19 pandemic forced her to move away, she had to pause her studies—but she never gave up on returning.

This summer, Josefina came back to OBT and enrolled in our virtual English classes. She is now strengthening her English skills and hopes to continue making progress at our location this fall.

Throughout her time away, OBT stayed connected—checking in, encouraging her, and helping her find resources to overcome the barriers in her way. Now, Josefina is giving back by referring family members and members of her church to OBT.

“OBT always supported me when I didn’t know what to do, and now I want to support you, too. Thank you for everything you have done for me.” - Josefina
