Restaurant After Hours is taking a pause.

When I started Restaurant After Hours I was in a very dark place mentally. I was in a position where I wanted to seek help but had no idea where to turn. I did not know what resources were available to people in my position. So I decided to create a bridge.

The journey to how it started to what we have grown to has been nothing short of incredible. So many conversations with restaurant workers who have been experiencing exactly what I experience on a daily basis. Your stories, your resiliency, your drive to keep going, it all inspires me. It inspires all of us. And we want to be better by you.

One of the things I have learned in recovery is that sometimes to move forward effectively, you have to take a pause to reassess. And that's exactly what we are planning on doing with the organization as a whole.

Our last newsletter went out on Monday, which is what the slides above are from. Today, our website will be taken down for a short time. In an effort not to over-promise, I do not want to mention when the next stage in our evolution will be unveiled. But please know we will be working towards something that is going to provide more stability for both us, and our community.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. And a sincerest thank you to all of our team members, volunteers, financial supporters, and nonprofit partners who have helped us grow.

Be in touch soon.

With gratitude,

Chef Zia Sheikh

Self-care isn't one-size-fits-all. For some, it’s enjoying quiet time alone. For others, it’s getting outside and socializing. Whatever it looks like for you, taking time for self-care is essential, especially in the hospitality industry. One way to avoid burnout is to remember to make time for yourself πŸ’š

Ending our week with a Feel-Good Friday! 😊 What's our favorite way to stop doom and gloom? Gratitude! It sounds cheesy, but it's true. Gratitude protects us from destructive impulses, such as resentment and envy. Keeping a mental inventory of all the people, experiences, and things that you're grateful for can become your best fail-safe! πŸ’— We're grateful for our community. What are you grateful for?

One of the best elements to protect your mental health: Friendship.
According to the American Psychological Association story from last year, "A review of 38 studies found that adult friendships, especially high-quality ones that provide social support and companionship, significantly predict well-being and can protect against mental health issues such as depression and anxietyβ€”and those benefits persist across the life span."

A great quote from Dr. Becky Kennedy about what defines a boundary. Without clear communication, boundaries can be mistaken for requests or ultimatums. Ultimatums and requests can easily be mistaken for boundaries.
Take a couple minutes today to evaluate your boundaries. Being clear about these definitions help us calibrate our expectations of others.
