Dear Members of the Editorial Board:
We are an organization of civil trial attorneys who primarily practice in Bronx County with over eight former Bronx Bar Presidents as members and a membership which enjoys a cumulative legal experience in Bronx County of hundreds of years.
It is with great joy that we unanimously nominate the Honorable Doris M. Gonzalez, the Administrative Judge of the Civil Term of Bronx Supreme Court to join the ranks of 2020 Power Women of The Bronx. In fact, we would not hesitate to nominate her to the Bronx Hall of Fame so that recognition of her legacy is preserved for future generations of Bronxites.
A woman of demonstrated impartiality, unparalled work ethic, fearless passion for the law and unrivaled leadership, she took over the reins of a already flawed and damaged civil justice system at 851 Grand Concourse and brought it back to relevance, efficiency and pride for all Bronx citizens. When still a work in progress, the Pandemic struck and although it understandably paralyzed the State, Judge Gonzalez was in the building every day leading a small cadre of court personnel to keep the civil system functioning for emergency applications and to serve all Bronx citizens to the extent that it could. As the days and months passed, she continued to expand services, motivate personnel and restore functionality. She has done so with a somewhat spiritual presence that sets a tone never before seen in these hallowed halls of Justice.
She has been able to be a force in the Courts earning the respect of hundreds of practicing attorneys but, also finding the time as a mom and mentor of young women. Judge Gonzalez is a complete person who has enriched the Bronx.
The virus may have slowed down the Courts but it could not defeat Judge Gonzalez. The Bronx is better for her efforts and as she, we look forward with optimism to a brighter 2021.
