ACMP - Associated Chamber Music Players

ACMP - Associated Chamber Music Players ACMP is more than just a membership organization. Since it was founded in 1994 through a generous bequest from Clinton B.

ACMP facilitates chamber music playing and learning by people of all ages and nationalities, from beginners to professionals through programs, publications, and grants. Founded as a non profit organization in 1947, ACMP, originally the Amateur Chamber Music Players, was conceived as a network of musicians who could contact each other for chamber music sessions while at home or "on the road." 70 y

ears later, the printed and online ACMP Worldwide Directory help more than 2,500 members connect throughout the world. Ford, an ACMP member, the ACMP Foundation has awarded over $4 million in grants for programs and projects that encourage participation and education in chamber music. Grants are provided for workshops for adult amateur players, community music programs for young musicians and others, home coaching for ACMP members and their ensembles, and for "Just Play" community-based concerts by ACMP members. For more information about the ACMP Foundation and its activities, and to apply for a grant, visit the Grant Programs page on our website, www.acmp.net.

ACMP members in Ecuador, left to right: Julio Peralta, viola; Jhomayra Cevallos, violin.

Jhomayra and Julio , part of the lively chamber music scene in Cuenca, are the newest members of the ACMP in Ecuador. The country has a growing presence in the ACMP through the efforts of long-time ACMP member Tom Cappaert (cello), whose work in Latin America began as principal cellist of the National Symphony. Tom now regularly visits Ecuador to teach and perform (and recruit new members) in Cuenca, Riobamba, and Quito.

How has ACMP been useful to you?

Several times a year, visiting musicians come through Amsterdam and we play together at a high level, essentially sight-reading as a group... When I travel, people are very welcoming, and connections made through ACMP have even led to my daughter-in-law and a New York violinist now playing together regularly.

What Is Music For?

We spend our lives listening to music, but rarely stop to ask what is actually happening when we do.

This is a small, in-person listening session built around that question. Through vinyl selections and live biofeedback, we’ll explore how music registers in the body - emotionally, physically, and perceptually - as it unfolds.

This isn’t a concert or a lecture. It’s a shared discussion and experiment in listening.

ACMP-sponsored play-in at the Louisville Academy of Music, organized by our local NAOC councilor Ed Bridge!

19 local players participated, playing 12 pieces by Beethoven, Brahms, Borodin, Dvořák, Mendelssohn, Mozart, and Schumann in different combinations, followed by a potluck dinner, a casual performance and a large-group reading of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 (with Louisville Academy of Music Program Director Kent Klarer playing the double bass part on trombone.)

Today is Joseph Haydn’s 294th birthday, and we celebrated the best way we know how by playing chamber music this past Sunday.

Consider donating to ACMP today in honor of Haydn and all things chamber music.

Remember Zachary Senick from the George Zuckerman library?

As a Canadian of Ukrainian descent, Zachary realized he had never heard or played music by a Ukrainian composer. That question led him to hundreds of composers, with rich catalogues including wind quintets, quartets, and solo bassoon works.

The challenge: most of it existed only in Ukrainian, and many scores remained unpublished due to Soviet-era censorship.

So he started tracking them down and the Ukrainian Chamber Music Encyclopedia (UCME) began.
