Humanist Jewish Congregation of Queens

Humanist Jewish Congregation of Queens Proud to be Jewish/part of a Jewish family — yet not comfortable with religion? Welcome to the majority! We celebrate human knowledge, power and responsibility.

We welcome all who identify as Jewish, by birth or by choice. Belief in a supreme being is optional and a personal choice. Cultural, or Humanistic, Judaism is a stream of Judaism that encourages individual thought and understanding in Judaism. Its relation to Judaism is through the history, culture, civilization, ethical values and shared experiences of the Jewish people. We read, say and sing wha

t we truly believe - in both Hebrew texts and English translations, as well as Yiddish. We view the Torah and other founding Jewish narratives as powerful myths which are important for Jewish cultural literacy, but not as history or divine revelation.

JFASD is proud to cosponsor The Workers Circle "Talk to Your Sheriff Movement" webinar/call on Monday, May 11 at 7 PM ET.

Across the country, local law enforcement is being pulled into federal immigration enforcement through programs like 287(g), ICE cooperation agreements, and detainers. These policies can undermine due process, community trust, and the constitutional rights of immigrant communities.

This issue connects directly to our mission. Religious freedom and democracy depend on public institutions that protect everyone equally—not systems that use state power to target vulnerable communities.

Join us to learn how people are organizing locally, how to engage sheriffs and elected officials, and how to take action in your own community. 👉 RSVP: bit.ly/TTYSMovCall

From Jews for a Secular Democracy:

Join us for a meaningful Shabbat service on Friday, April 24 at 7:00 PM ET, followed by a timely conversation on public education and religious freedom. Register HERE for the livestream link.

Following the service, Jews for a Secular Democracy will present our Constitutional Defender Award to Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers and a leading advocate for public education. Randi will speak on public education and the separation of church and state.

As efforts to blur the line between religion and public education continue to grow from book bans to curriculum censorship and attacks on LGBTQIA students, this program will explore what’s at stake for students, families, and real religious freedom—and how we all can respond.

👉Register HERE! https://actionnetwork.org/events/public-education-and-church-state-separation-a-conversation-with-randi-weingarden

This event will be live-streamed (link provided upon registration), so you can join from anywhere.

If you happen to be in the Detroit area, we’d also love to welcome you in person. Tickets are FREE, but registration is required. For more information: https://bit.ly/randijfasd.
