Our 8th Curatorial Workshop, Curating from the Blacklist, is a day-long workshop that invites curators to discuss challenges, strategies, and responses to curating works exploring themes discouraged by the current administration. Discussions will be led by Clement Hanami (Japanese American National Museum), Alisha Kerlin (The Barrick Museum at the University of Las Vegas), and Hamza Walker (The Brick LA), and John D. The administration’s proposal to place “warning signs” near the Smithsonian is a direct attack not only on institutional independence but on free expression. This is just another tactic employed by this administration to chill speech, silence the nation's premier cultural institution and, with it, museums as a whole, and cultural spaces that it views as not aligning with its ideology.
