COVID-19 showed us that the communities with the highest medical needs often have the least access to health care. We need to pass the Health Equity Assessment Bill to make sure we all get our fair share in the health care system.

When hospitals in rural and poor communities close maternity care, pregnant people are put at risk. Require a health equity assessment before state regulators decide on proposed hospital downsizings and closings!

Black, Brown, and rural communities were left without enough hospital beds when COVID-19 hit. The Health Equity Assessment Act will prompt state regulators to make sure everyone gets a fair share of health care in NY! Ask , we need an Assembly vote on A191a!

$50 Paid focus group for women who have experienced unfair medical bills!

Calling all women of New York State! Have you ever had one of these experiences while receiving health care?
- Received a surprise medical bill from a doctor you thought accepted your insurance, but actually didn’t?
- Received multiple bills for a single hospital visit?
- Received an outrageously expensive bill for a quick visit to a doctor where you received minimal services?
- Received a medical bill that charged you something you did not understand, like a “facility fee?”
- Received an expensive bill for COVID-19 testing or treatment that your insurance refused to cover?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then we want to hear from YOU!

Raising Women’s Voices- NY is a nonprofit organizing working to make sure that the voices of women and LGBTQ+ people are represented in the health care policies that affect their lives. We will be hosting a focus group to learn about some of the unfair medical billing practices that often cause New Yorkers to go into medical debt. Stories like yours will help us convince NY State lawmakers to take action and make some real changes to help protect New Yorkers from medical debt!

The focus group will be on December 18 from 7-8:30 pm. Because of COVID-19, we will be hosting this focus group online. Please note that we are looking for participants who have private insurance or no insurance, but not Medicaid. If you are interested in participating, please fill out the survey form below:
