NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) has proposed a rule that beginning August 1, 2025, every Business Improvement District (BID) and group that provides cleaning services on city sidewalks, streets, public plazas, curbs, or gutters will be required to keep bags of trash off the street. Groups can select a sanitation garage for bag disposal, set on-street containers, or place movable wheelie bins out for collection.

DSNY will hold a virtual public hearing on the proposed rule at 10:00 a.m. on February 10, 2025. In March, the West Shore Business Improvement District (WSBID) Board appointed founding member Jeff Henick as its new Chair. Mr. Henick has been instrumental in the formation and history of the WSBID since its inception in 2015. With over 35 years of experience in the self-storage industry, he is partner and Chief Operating Officer of Stop & Stor Self Storage, overseeing over 120 employees and servicing nearly 25,000 customers in 19 locations throughout four outlying boroughs of New York City.

Mr. Henick is well-positioned to lead the WSBID in a variety of critical areas. These include building a stronger community of businesses to facilitate improvements in infrastructure, security, beautification, and relationships with key government agencies – all of which are essential to the economic growth of the WSBID.

The SIEDC welcomes his leadership and looks forward to the new energies, ideas, and professional know-how he will bring in partnership with members of the WSBID.
