🌟 Article of the Week 🌟

This week’s featured article from IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters (GRSL) presents a compact single-photon underwater LiDAR system for long-range sensing with high spatial–temporal resolution.

🔍 This Week’s Highlight
Title: Compact Long-Range Single-Photon Underwater Lidar With High Spatial–Temporal Resolution
Authors: Mingjia Shangguan, Zhifeng Yang, Zaifa Lin, Zhongping Lee, Haiyun Xia, Zhenwu Weng

📖 🌊 Underwater LiDAR systems are often limited by large size and high power consumption. This paper presents a compact single-photon underwater LiDAR system capable of long-range detection with low pulse energy while maintaining high spatial and temporal resolution. The system demonstrates underwater detection over tens of meters and supports applications such as marine remote sensing, seabed gas emission monitoring, and underwater imaging.

A new edition of ISO 14001 is coming – join us to explore what it means in practice. 🌱

Together with BSI UK, we invite you to a dedicated webinar unpacking the key updates in ISO 14001:2026 – Environmental management systems.

We’ll be exploring the most significant updates and what they mean for environmental management, including the practical implications for organizations and real-world examples of measurable, positive impact.

The webinar will also cover how the updated edition connects with other standards in the ISO 14000 family, including ongoing work on topics such as biodiversity, natural capital, and climate adaptation.

You’ll hear directly from experts involved in developing the standard, followed by a live Q&A session.

One of the highlights at the ISO/TC 211 plenary meetings is "Standards in Action". This is a day of presentations that in some way touch on standards and standardization. Standards in action is free and everyone can participate, digitally or onsite, which this year is Gothenburg in Sweden.

This year's presentations will address, among other things, how standards can be used in digital twins and in the transport sector, BIM-GIS initiatives, how young people can be attracted to working with geodata and standardization, and national geospatial strategic plans from India and Sweden.

Please see required registration information in the news item at:

NationalSTEMday is a good a reason as any to ramp up ASPRS NAR a bit.

On this , we’re proud to share a reflection from our Chief Engineer, Gerard Dalziel: How EWB-USA is engineering hope amid global uncertainty.

As he prepares to retire at year’s end, Gerard reflects on the lessons of community-led engineering—and the optimism he carries for the future we’re building together.
