Anti-Government Internet Watchtower

Anti-Government Internet Watchtower We keep an eye on the government, its actions (brutality and corruption), its logic (voluntaryism vs. statism content), and its effects (other stories).

"Today, approximately 1.3 million Americans will lose their unemployment benefits. Of course, Obama is pushing Congress to extend the benefits longer, because, you know, a million pi**ed off people is politically treacherous.

Simultaneously, there is a push to increase the minimum wage.
Simultaneously, Obamacare is kicking in, forcing labor costs even higher by requiring employers to buy health insurance for their employees.
Simultaneously, the Federal Reserve is driving down the value of the dollar by printing more of them.
Simultaneously, harsher regulatory requirements are making it more difficult to do business.
The list goes on...

If you make it difficult to do business, expensive to hire people, and devalue your currency, all while paying people not to work at the expense of those who do, can we really expect anything other than economic disaster?" -Christopher Cantwell

"Yeah businesses totally provided good working conditions in 18th-century U.S. after Reconstruction when not regulated! Ha! See, this is where a government does good."

The problem with that is, yeah, government run "capitalism" (*ahem* corporatism!) fails every time. The difference is that the power actually IS put in the business' hands when they're given the ability to gain control of a monopoly on the use of force (a government) to make things the way they want it and twist the artificial rules created by that government to work in their favor, having the opposite intended effect. Government gives them MORE control because it introduces a monopolistic, centralized control mechanism over the market that wouldn't actually exist in a free market. That's where the corruption is allowed to enter the scene. Don't make available a central control mechanism, then there is no force to control the market, there is no "end all be all" one single power to be used against everyone, it's simply voluntary interaction. (I still cry when people try to explain business hierarchies as control: you can't voluntarily enslave yourself! It's a contradiction in terms! Rethink things. If they do anything you don't like, just walk away, it's that simple.)

How the U.S. Government perpetuated a monopoly on the light bulb in the hands of General Electric.
You got the facts first from Anti-Government Internet Watchtower!

First, read this: http://blog.heritage.org/2013/12/26/time-to-stock-up-on-incandescent-bulbs-before-they-go-out-permanently/

Then, examine this:

Term for a patent (tl;dr about 20 years): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Term_of_patent_in_the_United_States

General Electric's patent for the incandescent light bulb: http://1.usa.gov/1cXIyPU
Expired

General Electric's patents for new light bulbs --
Incandescent with LED inside: http://1.usa.gov/1deMqzy
Fluorescent: http://1.usa.gov/18PrxMa

U.S. Government bans the incandescent bulb as GE's patent on it expires. GE holds patent to its new replacement. Hmm...
Capitalism is TOTALLY wrong and perpetuates monopolies and government is TOTALLY the solution to this problem. Ha.

"DeGuerin pointed at the no-knock warrant as a contributing factor in Sowder's death. 'The danger is that if you're sitting in your home and it's pitch black outside and your door gets busted in without warning, what the hell are you supposed to do?' DeGuerin said."

Exactly, you can't just wait and figure out who it is first, it's totally unrealistic. If it was an intruder (not that the police aren't intruders!), it'd be too late.
MAYBE THESE POLICE WILL LEARN SOMEDAY.
