Breaking Silence: Passing the Mic to Our Daughters Project is a filmed based project, offering a platform for young women in hip-hop to openly discuss and analyze the messages they're receiving within the culture. Breaking Silence Passing the Mic to Our Daughters (BSPMD) was developed in 2012 in effort to fill the missing void of young women's voices in discussions surrounding hip-hop culture. Thr

ough peer dialogue, these young women openly confront and analyze their own and each other’s views, touching on misogyny, body image, creativity, sexism and their overall love for the culture. The project offers young women in hip-hop a platform to address where they currently stand, and project their vision of where they would like the culture to be in the future, while also providing community support for young women voices.
