EMERGENCY LOVE donations provide life-saving surgery for children with Retinoblastoma, a rare type of eye cancer that usually develops in early childhood, typically before the age of 5. This form of cancer develops in the retina, which is the specialized light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eyethat detects light and color.
In children with retinoblastoma, the disease often affects only one eye. However, one out of three children with retinoblastoma develops cancer in both eyes. The most common first sign of retinoblastoma is a visible whiteness in the pupil called “cat’s eye reflex” or leukocoria. This unusual whiteness is particularly noticeable in dim light or in photographs taken with a flash. Other signs and symptoms of retinoblastoma include crossed eyes or eyes that do not point in the same direction (strabismus), which can cause squinting; a change in the color of the colored part of the eye (iris); redness, soreness, or swelling of the eyelids; and blindness or poor vision in the affected eye or eyes.

EMERGENCY LOVE donations provide life-saving surgery for children with Hydrocephalus, a buildup of too much cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. Normally, this fluid cushions your brain. When you have too much, though, it puts harmful pressure on your brain.
Hydrocephalus can be congenital, or present at birth. Causes include genetic problems and problems with how the fetus develops. An unusually large head is the main sign of congenital hydrocephalus.
Hydrocephalus can also happen after birth. This is called acquired hydrocephalus. It can occur at any age. Causes can include head injuries, strokes, infections, tumors, and bleeding in the brain. Hydrocephalus can permanently damage the brain, causing problems with physical and mental development. If untreated, it is usually fatal. With treatment, many people lead normal lives with few limitations. Treatment usually involves surgery to insert a shunt. A shunt is a flexible but sturdy plastic tube. The shunt moves the cerebrospinal fluid to another area of the body where it can be absorbed. Medicine and rehabilitation therapy can also help. Symptoms include:
Headache
Vomiting and nausea
Blurry vision
Balance problems
Bladder control problems
Thinking and memory problems 🚨❤️

EMERGENCY LOVE saves children with many types of surgical needs, including Rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancerous (malignant) tumor of the muscles that are attached to the bones. This cancer mostly affects children.
Rhabdomyosarcoma can occur in many places in the body. The most common sites are the head or neck, the urinary or reproductive system, and the arms or legs.
The cause of rhabdomyosarcoma is unknown. It is a rare tumor with only several hundred new cases per year in the United States.
Some children with certain birth defects are at an increased risk. Some families have a gene mutation that increases this risk. Most children with rhabdomyosarcoma do not have any known risk factors.

From our Founder, Aaron Tabor, MD
Raising Awareness Among Healthcare Providers about Epidermolysis Bullosa and Advancing Toward a Cure
Objective: Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is an orphan disease that affects about half a million people worldwide, but may not be familiar to all clinicians. The authors' goal was to present a short description of this condition and current research in the form of a narrative review. Methods: The authors reviewed the literature on epidermolysis bullosa in order to describe the condition and current genetic research. Results: There are at least 31 subtypes of EB, including junctional EB, dystrophic EB, and Kindler syndrome. Genetic research is crucial in finding strategies to manage and possibly cure EB, which is often undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. EB may present in newborns and may persist over the course of a lifetime. Serious complications can occur with EB, including chronic blisters, wounds, ulcers, pruritus, clubbing of hands and feet, and amputations. Pain is frequently reported. About 80 percent of patients with recessive dystrophic EB will succumb to squamous cell carcinoma by age 55. Promising directions for future research include genome editing, gene therapy, and cell-based therapies. Conclusion: Our growing understanding of genetics and cell therapies may lead to promising therapeutic advances to treat this challenging condition.
