The Intercollegiate Hellenic Society Global has been in existence for over three decades. Since its inception, our organization has been committed to bringing together young Hellenes to support causes important to our Hellenic roots, and the general Hellenic student body. Our organization strives to contribute to the positive additions of our forefathers, by maintaining an active role in the commu

nity. In the past we have conducted fundraisers, raising thousands of dollars to assist causes which we hold close to our hearts. In recent years, we have donated computers to the St. Basile's Academy, visited with Seniors at the St. Michael's Home, and partook in a Toys for Tots event. In this changing world economy, we are striving to further our organization's commitment to our members by focusing on career advancement and development. Our organization is looking to assist members in networking, career advancement, career guidance, and job placement. IHS Global is a domestic not-for-profit corporation established in New York, and in order to provide these services and keep the Hellenic youth together we rely on the support of our friends, family, and local business. Your generous donation would be kindly appreciated. We look forward to holding the torch of this generation's Hellenes proudly and maintaining our rich Hellenic traditions and history.

1821 Meets 1776 🇬🇷🇺🇸

A spectacular day on 5th Avenue as I.H.S. Global took to the streets for the New York Greek Independence Day Parade! 🗽✨
Leading the way, our Undergraduate President, Marina Ioannou (.ioannou), marched alongside a wave of the next generation of Hellenic students.

I.H.S. Global was glad to march along with the Hellenic student communities of , , , , and and numerous other Greek & Cypriot colleges & universities.

This year carries a unique weight. We are bridging two monumental milestones: 205 years of Greek Independence and the U.S. Semiquincentennial (250 years) of American Independence.

From the universities of the Tri-State area to the shores of Greece and Cyprus, we stand united in heritage and purpose. 🇨🇾🇬🇷

“Bridging Revolutions: Hellas and America — A Signature Commemorative Voyage.” 🇬🇷🇺🇸

Thank you to Parade Chairman Louis Katsos for sponsoring and inviting us to this event for the parade volunteers, .federation.ny and distinguished guests. We also thank event chair Paul Pavlakos for his work in bringing this cruise experience to reality. 🥂✨

As we sailed past the Statue of Liberty, we reflected on 205 years of Greek independence and the upcoming 250th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence. The evening served as a meaningful reminder of the shared values of freedom and democracy that unite our two nations.

The Genocide of the Pontic Greeks According to Vatican Archives - Panel Discussion Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York Holy Institution Panagia Soumela Ilias I. Katsos

Introductory Remarks & Panel Presentation

[01:11] –: The event begins with a short delay. The moderator identifies the panel members: keynote speaker Dr. Theodosios Kyriakidis, Lou Katsos (President of EMBCA), various presidents of Pontian societies in New York and Norwalk, and Dimitrios Molohidis (successful businessman and philanthropist noted for his service to Hellenism).

[04:34] –: Detailed introductions of Lou Katsos and his work through EMBCA to link historical memory with contemporary Hellenic issues. The moderator highlights the coordination between the Diaspora and the Federation of Hellenic Societies for the 2026 Greek Independence Day Parade events.

[06:30] –: Louis Katsos takes the podium to welcome the audience. He emphasizes that this is one of the most important discussions of the year, focusing on the historical gravity of the destruction of Hellenism in Asia Minor.

The Scale of the Genocide

[10:42] –: Katsos speaks directly to the descendants of the victims. He mentions that reading the detailed historical accounts reveals the systematic nature of the massacres and uprisings. He praises the Pontian community for their strength and determination in seeking national and international recognition of the genocide.

[12:25] –: The moderator provides a harrowing statistic to illustrate the scale: between 1914 and 1923, an average of 1,000 Christians were killed per day for ten years, totaling roughly 3.5 million victims (including Armenians and Assyrians).

Historical Context: 1821 vs. 1922

[13:59] –: A brief historical detour connects the 1821 Revolution and the Filiki Eteria (founded in 1814) to the broader goal of shaking off Ottoman rule, setting the stage for the later struggles of Greeks in the Ottoman Empire.

[01:15:00] –: (Note: The transcript contains a large gap in the middle section, which typically covers Dr. Kyriakidis's primary historical presentation on the specific phases of the Pontic Genocide, the role of the Young Turks, and the "White Death" of the labor battalions.)

Q&A and Modern Turkish Education

[02:00:23] –: During the closing discussion, Dr. Kyriakidis addresses the difficulty of changing historical narratives in modern Turkey. He notes that Turkish education systematically misrepresents these events to children, making interpersonal dialogue difficult without deep, evidence-based documentation.

[02:01:26] –: Announcement regarding the availability of Dr. Kyriakidis's book at a special publisher's price for attendees.

Official Recognition & Conclusion

[02:01:43] –: The moderator reviews the official legal recognitions:

Greece (1994): Recognized May 19th as the Day of Remembrance for the Pontic Greek Genocide.

Greece (1998): Recognized September 14th for the broader Asia Minor Greek Genocide.

Greece (2022): Recognized as a day for Hellenism in Asia Minor.

USA (2019): Mentions the U.S. Congress and Senate resolutions recognizing the genocide of Armenians, Greeks, Assyrians, Chaldeans, and other Christians.

[02:02:45] –: Final thanks to the panel members and the audience for their presence.
