On January 9, 2026, we gathered for New Year, New Hope - an intimate morning of reflection, culture, and purpose at the Studio Museum in Harlem.
Hosted by Idris Elba and Sabrina Elba, the breakfast brought together friends, supporters, and new members of our community to reflect on the work of the Elba Hope Foundation and to debut our Inaugural Impact Report. The conversation was grounded in reflections on HOPE - across youth opportunity, creative futures, and community-led change in the UK, the US, and across Africa.
It was a gentle and intentional opening to the year. Through music, art, and storytelling, we created space to pause - and to consider what hope requires of us in practice.
We were honored to be guided by Dr. Mahogany L. Browne, our Master of Ceremonies, who opened the morning with a question that continues to resonate:
“If hope had a daily practice, what would it ask you to do - consistently, not heroically?”
Musical interludes by master kora player Yacouba Sissoko deepened the experience, grounding the gathering in West African history and cultural lineage - a reminder that hope is both ancestral and forward-looking.
Sincere thanks to our presenting partner, American Express, for their continued commitment to purpose-driven work. Both of our organizations believe in investing in people - entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, and changemakers - and in building pathways toward resilience, opportunity, and lasting impact. We’re grateful to be building alongside partners who share that belief.
And to the Studio Museum in Harlem, thank you for welcoming us into such an extraordinary space.
A meaningful start to 2026 - grounded in community, culture, and the steady work of turning hope into action.
