Musfiqur Rahman, our fellow brother from KUET CSE'13 and PhD student of University of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK) tragically left us far too soon due to a heart attack last week. He leaves behind his wife and their two-year-old daughter.

Sharing the achievement of my graduate student Razia Khan Sharme who won the first place at Emerging Researchers National Conference, held in Atlanta, Georgia in past weekend. Both Razia Khan Sharme and her husband Muntasir Mahin completed their undergraduate degree in Material Science and Engineering from my Alma Matter - Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) before joining my group as graduate research assistants. Sharme is working to develop conductive and transparent coatings for NASA’s space applications. Congratulations Razia Khan Sharme!

বড় অনিশ্চয়তা আমাদের যাপিত জীবনের প্রতিটি ক্ষণ, মুহুর্ত পরেই কি হতে চলেছে তা নিয়ে কোন আগাম বার্তা সৃষ্টি কর্তা আমাদের দেন না।
এইতো সপ্তাহ দুই আগেও মাসুম ভাইয়ের সকালটা আর দশটা দিনের মত করেই শুরু হয়েছিল,ঘুম থেকে উঠে দুইটা বাচ্চার হাসি মুখ, কিন্তু একটা বড় ধরনের হার্ট এটাক, হৃদ যন্ত্রের গ্রাফটাই প্রায় ১০ মিনিটের জন্য ফ্ল্যাট বানিয়ে দিয়েছিল।

American Dream! বাংলাদেশ থেকে আসা আর দশজন প্রকৌশলীর মতই হাত দিয়ে ছোয়ার সংগ্রাম করে চলেছিলেন, প্রায় এক দশক ধরেই।
কিন্তু কারো কারো জীবনে এই সংগ্রামের সময়টা একটু দীর্ঘই হয়, মাসুম ভাইয়ের জন্যও হয়তো তেমনই।

হাসপাতালে মাসুম ভাইয়ের বেডের পাশে বসে, শান্তনা দিতে পারছিলাম না, মানুষের এই চরম ক্রান্তিকালে, শান্তনা দেওয়া কঠিন!
-সব কিছু ঠিক হয়ে যাবে, ইনশাহআল্লাহ! অনেক মানুষ ভালো থেকেও তো ভালো নাই!

মাসুম ভাই দুর্বল হয়ে যাওয়া হৃদযন্ত্রটা হাসপাতালের ওষুধের গন্ধযুক্ত বাতাসে ভরে, দীর্ঘ নিঃশ্বাস নিলেন।
কিছুক্ষণ চুপ করে, সিলিঙয়ের দিকে তাকিয়ে বল্লেনঃ আমার আসলে, অ্যামেরিকায় এসে কখনো ভালো থাকা হয় নি, তাই এই অনুভূতিটা বলতে পারবো না। মানুষ ভালো থেকেও ভালো না থাকে কিভাবে!
ডাক্তার স্পষ্ট বলে দিয়েছেন, নো স্ট্রেচ! নো চিন্তা! মস্তিষ্ককে চিন্তা মুক্ত রাখায় এই পুনর্বাসন প্রক্রিয়ার সব চেয়ে বড় চ্যালেঞ্জ!
মাসুম ভাই আবেগী হয়ে গেলেন, মস্তিষ্ককে চিন্তা মুক্ত রাখার চিন্তায় না, বরংচ প্রায় ৫ বছর বয়সী এবং ৩ বছর বয়সী ছেলে-মেয়েদের কথা চিন্তা করে!
স্কুল শেষে বাড়ি ফিরে তার দুই জনই বাবার গায়ে লাফিয়ে পড়ে, সুপার ম্যান, স্পাইডার ম্যান সহ কত কি হয়!
তারা চাইলেই আর বাবার বুকে লাফিয়ে পড়তে পারবে না। ডাক্তারের নিষেধ। অন্ততঃ ছয় মাস তো বটেই!

-ভাই, বাসা ভাড়া কত আপনার? আর আনুষঙ্গিক খরচ ?
ভাই, জবাবে কিছু বলে নি, শুধু একটাই কথাঃ আল্লাহ ভরসা!

এই মানুষটার পাশে আমাদের দাঁড়ানো উচিৎ। আজ আমি, আপনি বা অন্য কেউ হয়তো ভালো আছি, কিন্তু আগামীকাল একটা দূর্গটনা সব কিছু ওলটপালট করে দিতে পারে, সব সমীকরণে গরমিল হয়ে যেতে পারে!
চলুন এগিয়ে আসি, দায়িত্ব থেকে, সাধ্যমত।

আজ মাসুম ভাইয়ের খারাপ সময় যাচ্ছে, কাল তো আমারও হতে পারে, অথবা আপনার ?

Sreezon Sifat Hasan and Khandaker Sadikur Rahman, recent graduates from the 2K17 batch of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology - KUET, have both earned significant recognition in the architectural community for their outstanding undergraduate theses.

Sreezon Sifat Hasan has been named one of the "TOP 10 Select Mentions" in the Architectural Thesis Award 2024, organized by Mango Architecture. His thesis, titled "DESIGN OF AN INTEGRATED CAMPUS: BSMR AVIATION & AEROSPACE UNIVERSITY, LALMONIRHAT," presents a comprehensive campus master plan that incorporates academic, research, and residential spaces alongside a flight training school. The project aims to create a dynamic learning environment for aviation and aerospace education. Additionally, his work was showcased in the 10th annual INSPIRELI AWARDS, the largest global student competition for young architects and designers.

Khandaker Sadikur Rahman also received "TOP 10 Select Mentions" in the Architectural Thesis Award 2024. His thesis, "Breaking the Horizontal Mold: A Vertical Campus as a Sustainable Solution for Land Constraints," proposes a vertical campus model to address land scarcity and maximize space efficiency. This sustainable design has been recognized in the 10th annual INSPIRELI AWARDS as well.

Both graduates have demonstrated exceptional talent, and their achievements are a testament to the innovative potential of the next generation of architects. Their work continues to make an impact in the global design community.

Building a mosque in a new area in the U.S. is not an easy journey, but Alhamdulillah, with dedication and perseverance, it is becoming a reality. May Allah bless and reward those who are tirelessly managing this project and those who generously contribute to its funding. Their efforts and sacrifices will serve the community for generations to come.
