Four swimmers. Over 28.5 miles around Manhattan. One shared purpose: expanding access to lifesaving cancer care.

Derek Yach, Global Health Advisor to CMMB, and the Swim for Hope team took on this extraordinary challenge to raise awareness and support for CMMB Kenya’s cancer programs in Kenya. Funds raised will help equip the Phangisile Mtshali Cancer Center and other regional health facilities with urgently needed chemotherapy ports.

CMMB supports the work of Access to Health Zambia in raising awareness of the importance of preventing, recognizing, and responding to excessive bleeding after childbirth, a complication that can put a mother’s life at risk. We join the global community in marking .

Today, Access to Health Zambia joins the global community in commemorating (PPH) Day, raising awareness of the importance of preventing, recognising and responding to excessive bleeding after childbirth a complication that can put a mother’s life at risk.

Zambia has made notable progress in reducing maternal mortality, with the maternal mortality ratio declining from 252 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2018 to 187 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2024, according to the Zambia Demographic and Health Survey 2024. Despite this progress, the rate remains above the National Health Strategic Plan and SDG 3.1 target of 70 deaths per 100,000 live births.
This calls for continued efforts to prevent, recognise and respond to complications such as PPH and protect every mother’s life.

Through the Children and Mothers Partnership Programme, Access to Health Zambia continues to strengthen maternal and newborn health by supporting healthcare workers and communities to prevent avoidable maternal and newborn deaths and ensure mothers receive timely, health quality care.

Today, we reflect on the legacy of Blessed Fulton J. Sheen and his deep commitment to serving those in need.

As a longtime member of CMMB’s Board of Directors, his compassion helped strengthen our mission of bringing medicines and care to communities around the world.

His example reminds us that answering Jesus’s call to “go into the whole world” begins with seeing and caring for the person in front of us.

Our community health workers in Trujillo, Peru, recently completed a refresher training on tracking vaccinations for children and pregnant women.

Led by nurse Luz Marina Castillo Reyes, the session covered how to use vaccination cards and a new follow-up booklet that local health centers will begin sharing with families, helping mothers and caregivers record completed vaccinations and keep track of upcoming doses.

Thank you to the Trujillo Sector 2 health team, especially Milagros Pinedo and Patricia Cerqueira, for making this training possible. When CHWs stay informed, the families they serve are better protected.

Today’s Gospel reminds us that our actions are just as important as our words.

When we put the needs of others first, compassion becomes action.
In rural South Sudan, CMMB is helping local health teams access motorbike ambulances and the training needed to operate and maintain them safely, bringing timely medical care closer to communities in need.

Together, we can turn compassion into action and help ensure no one is forgotten.
