Cultivate community with GAC! We traded the classroom for mastiha lessons during one of our weekend cultural excursions🌿

Did you know this type of Mastic tree only grows on the southern part of Chios? Much like our volunteers it seems the trees love it here too. Thank you Mastiha Roots for hosting this educational session, and providing us with so much information about the cultivation of Mastic resin, we had the best time!

We also visited the Chios Mastic Museum where we learned more about the island's rich history and the production of Mastic products.

On top of teaching Greek and English, we’ve also taken to the field! With the incredible support and coordination of , we’ve been organizing sports and recreational games for the kids at the VIAL facility. There is truly nothing like the universal language of play to break down barriers, spark laughter, and bring everyone together.

Getting to support their mission whether we're in the classroom or playing with the kids is an absolute privilege. We can't wait to share more of this journey with you! 🙌⚽

The adventure is officially well underway! 🇬🇷✨ We’ve been busy meeting new faces and diving into our first days of service teaching Greek and English.

We are so proud to be collaborating with ΜΕΤΑδραση - METAdrasi (Action for Migration and Development). For years, METAdrasi has been doing vital, life-changing work on the ground in Greece facilitating the reception and integration of refugees and migrants, supporting unaccompanied minors, and providing essential services like interpretation and education.

Being able to support their mission and connect with new people is an absolute privilege. We can't wait to see what the rest of this journey holds! 🙌📚

Welcome to Chios! To celebrate 10 years, let’s introduce you to our volunteers.

Over the next three weeks they will be working to keep our legacy alive on the island with our greatest partner- METAdrasi. We are so excited to share their journey, their projects, and the daily magic of Chios with you.

Our Chios program is officially underway! We started the day alongside our local partners, meeting the community members we will be serving. Afterward, we enjoyed a tour of Chios' beautiful town before gathering for the official Greek America Corps Welcome Dinner along the port.

None of this would be possible without our incredible supporters, whose belief in our mission has sustained this program every year since 2017!

Be sure to follow our journey over the next three weeks as we hope to inspire you along the way!

A Celebration & a Call to Action!

As we approach the official start day of our summer program in Chios, we are celebrating a massive milestone: 10 years of cultivating a diverse network of active volunteers across the U.S. and Canada who choose to give back with empathy, respect, and philanthropy. 🇬🇷

The Greek America Corps isn't just a summer volunteer program. It is a two-way bridge of transformation.

For the people we serve: It means weeks of demanding, life-altering humanitarian service alongside local organizations, stakeholders, and communities. It’s philotimo met with direct, impactful action where it matters most.

For our volunteers: This is the moment their lives divide into a "before" and "after". They arrive ready to work, but they leave having discovered the true soul of Greece by forging unforgettable connections with locals and the people they serve. They turn Philotimo into action while connecting deeply with modern Greek culture and ideals. The bonds they build change them forever, transforming them into lifelong, compassionate leaders.

Every single bit counts. To ensure we create a deeply meaningful, safe, and impactful experience for both our volunteers and the vulnerable populations they support, we need our entire community to stand behind them.

Today, on World Refugee Day, we honor the strength, resilience, and courage of refugees around the world who are rebuilding their lives in the face of unimaginable challenges.
For the past 10 years, Greek America Corps volunteers have spent life changing summers serving alongside nonprofit organizations across Greece, including those supporting refugee communities. Through English-language instruction, cultural integration programs, distribution of essential supplies, and day-to-day support, our volunteers have worked to help refugees and their families build connections, gain confidence, and find a sense of belonging in their new communities.
This work is rooted in a simple belief: that every person deserves dignity, opportunity, and the chance to thrive.
Today, we celebrate not only the resilience of refugees, but also the compassion of our volunteers and the organizations working to welcome them. Together, we can continue building stronger, more inclusive communities for all. We invite you to make a donation to send them to serve this summer.
