THIS WEEKEND: Diane Severin Nguyen’s WAR SONGS travels to The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), Los Angeles!

In her first live performance project, a Performa Commission for the Performa 2025 Biennial, Nguyen together with Music Director Laszlo Horvath and a cast of ten performers examine how images and media shape identity, power, and history. Adopting the format of an anti-Vietnam War concert, the performance reworks protest anthems, refracting the sound of past resistance through the contemporary zeitgeist to question how nostalgia shapes current ideas of freedom, purity, and collective struggle.

The West Coast premiere opens tomorrow, Friday February, 27 at MOCA’s Geffen Contemporary.

“We have long admired Performa for expanding the possibilities of what live performance can be… The Performa Hub offers a rare opportunity to let architecture perform alongside the artists, transforming the city into a living stage.” — Elizabeth Diller

A look inside the Performa 2025 Biennial Hub at 424 Broadway, designed by , which closes this Sunday November 23.

This marks the first collaboration between Performa and Diller Scofidio + Renfro, though the two previously worked alongside each other on SCL 2110 organized by Rodrigi Tisi in Chile in 2010. Over the years, RoseLee Goldberg has written about Diller Scofidio + Renfro and their impact on contemporary art and architecture. This shared history at the crossroads of architecture and performance makes the partnership a natural extension of their work.

Isabel Lewis’s 𝘋𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘭𝘨ä𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘱 runs through Sunday at the Performa Hub!

The workshop is designed to explore our relationships with one another, particularly how we are socialized to behave as groups. It examines the uncanny mirroring that occurs in social and political life, considering moments in which oppositional views intersect and mimic one another.

Featuring artistic collaborators Neva Guido, Marguerite Hemmings, Ishmael Houston-Jones, Niall Jones, Kris Lee, and Majesty Royale-Jackson.

Everyone with an interest and willingness to move and think through ideas in space is welcome. You can come and go as you wish, and no prior performance experience is needed.

ALL PERFORMA STUDIO EVENTS ARE FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

Meet the cast of Aria Dean’s 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒓 𝑺𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒎𝒆: a new theatrical commission unfolding in a digitally reconstructed Tiergarten, where the Poet and the Philosopher’s date in the park becomes a broader meditation on the relationship between aesthetics and the nascent political movements of the 20th century.

Our first and second performances are sold out, but keep your eyes peeled for ticket releases in our stories
