What do you see when you look at an ordinary cereal box or a magazine cover?

The Rebbe once described the artist’s gift: to look past the surface of an object, perceive the essence, something others might not notice, and bring it into view so that we, too, can see what he or she sees.

That’s what makes Jojo Anavim’s art feel so at home in our Chabad house. He takes images we recognize, the Life cereal box and the iconic LIFE magazine cover, and opens them up to something deeper: words from Torah and Chassidic teachings, and the reminder from this weeks Torah portion that every person is “Created in His Image.”

In the mirror, you become the cover star. Look closely and you’ll even find the Chabad West Village label at the bottom.

Jojo is our beloved community member and an extraordinarily talented artist. We’re so grateful to have him and his work here. Come see it for yourself, and maybe you’ll never look at LIFE quite the same way again.

Our Hudson River sukkah is back, sitting on what might just be the best piece of real estate in all of NYC. 🍋
All week it’s been filled with life and joy: from the NJR running group to our Hebrew school family gatherings, drum circles and caricature artists, music, good food — and most of all, the greatest company to share a mitzvah with.
Tens of thousands of runners and passersby, many stopping in and experiencing a sukkah and lulav/etrog for the very first time.
Today’s your last chance! Come by before sunset to do the mitzvah, after which, we roll into the happiest days of the year, lighting up downtown with joy and dancing for Simchat Torah.

You all know we take joy seriously at Chabad West Village!

Come celebrate Simchat Torah with us this Saturday night. We’ll dance with the Torah, sing, say l’chaims, and close out this beautiful month of holidays together.

Tomorrow, as we mark three years since October 7, we have the profound honor of hearing from and dancing with newlywed Eliya and Ziv Cohen, two extraordinary people whose courage, strength, and faith have carried light through unimaginable darkness.

We’re in the Grand Finale of this special month!

You’ve got all day today to shake the Lulav & Etrog one last time this holiday! 🍋🌿

And then we move right into Shabbat and Simchat Torah.

Sukkot begins on Friday evening, and we want to celebrate with you! Please swipe for all the information you’ll need for a beautiful and festive holiday.

The Hudson River Sukkah will be open all Sukkot long! Stop by, just past Pier 46. We can shake the Lulav and Etrog together, enjoy sitting in a Sukkah, and even share a cup of coffee. It’s beautiful, it’s breezy, it’s festive, and most importantly–it’s a mitzvah!

Let’s create fun, colorful, and unforgettable holiday memories for our kids! Join us for an afternoon of Sukkot fun, with music, creativity, and plenty of holiday spirit. Enjoy a lively drum circle, caricature artist, floral arranging, festive crafts, and delicious Sukkot treats. We hope to see you there!

Join us for an evening of Downtown Jewish unity featuring music & mazza in the Sukkah! Celebrate Sukkot with delicious food, exciting live music and piznomim, and inspiring Torah, all with a mix of Greek and Syrian flavors.

Simchat Torah is the happiest holiday of the Jewish year, a night filled with dancing, L’chaims, and pure celebration as we finish the Torah and immediately begin it again! Simchat Torah also marks the third anniversary of October 7. As we lift the Torah high and dance with it in our arms, we’ll hold on to its timeless message: to choose joy, even in the face of sorrow. With joy, hope, and strength in our steps, we’ll dance together, and we’ll dance for those who cannot.

Over the course of the High Holidays, more than 900 different Jews of all ages, backgrounds, and levels of Jewish experience came through the doors of our quirky, beautiful space for High Holidays.

We prayed. We cried. We laughed. We sang. We danced.

And, most of all, we were together.

A huge thank you to the angels at Aurora Capital, Bobby Cayre, and JL Epps for once again opening their doors to our community and giving us a place to come together on the holiest days of the year.

And thank you to everyone who helped make it happen—from our rabbinic and musical teams to our gabbaim, Torah reader, volunteers, planners, hosts, kids program, and everyone who showed up and helped create the magic.

We achieved lift off! Chag sameach, and here’s to an extraordinary year ahead for our Village 🥂

Tonight, our community traveled together to the ohel, the Rebbe’s resting place, in honor of the High Holidays. On the way, Rabbi Berel led a meaningful discussion to prepare us for the visit and help us enter the experience in the right frame of mind.

We reflected on the year gone by, prayed for the year ahead, bonded with one another, and shared an uplifting, meaningful moment at the Rebbe’s holy resting place.

A special shoutout to Ari Marom for organizing such a beautiful evening. Many more to come!
