The educational discussion will be moderated by Murad Awawdeh of the New York Immigration Coalition, and will feature the following speakers:

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 is a landmark U.S. federal statute that prohibits racial discrimination in voting. It was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson during the height of the civil rights movement on August 6, 1965. Fast forward to spring of 2026. In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court has struck down Louisiana’s majority-Black 6th Congressional District, dealing a significant blow to Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

CUNY Citizenship Now!, in collaboration with Catholic Charities, will be hosting Resources for TPS Holders Webinar on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. This presentation is open to all TPS holders affected by the recent changes. As Haitian nationals comprise the largest group of TPS beneficiaries in New York City, the presentation will be offered in both English and Haitian Creole.
