Depression is common, it’s treatable, and no one should face it alone.

Yet the World Health Organization (WHO) reports fewer than half of the people living with depression worldwide get support, and stigma is a major barrier. This Depression Awareness Month 📆, we’re reminding everyone that reaching out to someone you trust is a powerful first step.

At Clubhouses around the world, members find something that helps break isolation: a community where they’re welcomed, needed, and valued.

Amber found belonging, purpose, and hope at NorthStar Clubhouse.

"In 2016, I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. I started struggling to keep my full time job and interact with the world. In 2020, I qualified for Disability and ended my 10 year teaching career. I was beside myself with grief and sadness that caused me to isolate from friends and family.

I started going to Clubhouse Tulsa in 2021 and it changed my life.

In 2022, I moved to Portland, Oregon. I knew almost no one, but I was sure that NorthStar Clubhouse would welcome me like a family. NorthStar is an integral part of my life. I continue to use my skills to help others find this great community of peers who can help in their mental health recovery."

Shaped by insights from people with lived experience, informal carers, and mental health clinicians, it explores practical ways to improve access, coordination, and continuity of care.

This World Mental Health Day, Clubhouse members around the world brought to life! From opening their doors to the wider community to hosting art festivals and awareness-walks, Clubhouses celebrated what belonging looks like in action: connection, purpose, friendship, and the opportunity to grow and recover together.
