At Tomorrow City USA 2026, Lydon Sleeper (U.S. Strategic Policy Lead, Joby Aviation) explored how advanced air mobility is moving from pilot programs to real-world impact, redefining how people, goods, and services move. Joby Aviation launched a series of weeklong demonstration flights in New York City last week in celebration of the Federal Aviation Administration’s eVTOL Integration Pilot Program, the start of a vision to connect ground transportation and air travel in a single, seamless journey.

Cities are no longer being asked to experiment. They are being asked to deliver and one of the clearest takeaways from those early sessions was the need for systems-level thinking.

Discussions on digital twins, edge computing, and connected infrastructure featuring Miami Director of Economic Innovation Keith Carswell, Intel, Crown Castle and iM Critical pointed to a future where cities operate as integrated, responsive environments — where physical and digital systems are continuously informing one another.
