PAWS NY

PAWS NY Thus, our motto: helping people by helping pets. We hope you'll help raise awareness for our work by inviting your friends to follow our page!

A nonprofit organization delivering critical support that keeps people and their pets together, preserving the human-animal bond for individuals facing hardship. The mission of Pets Are Wonderful Support (PAWS) NY is to help New York City’s most vulnerable residents remain with their pets by delivering critical programs and services through a community of partners and volunteers. Our programs help keep pets in their homes while protecting and promoting the human-animal bond that is so physically and psychologically valuable to our clients.

Today's Foster Friday spotlight is on volunteer Marina! Marina fostered bonded cats Taz and Mittens, and then Betsy, while their guardians were in the hospital. Says Marina, " Fostering for PAWS makes you feel like you are part of a broader NYC community - and you're supporting friends and neighbors. We had Taz and Mittens for a few months and captured this adorable picture of them sun-bathing together on a dining chair after a few days of hiding in the bathroom. Betsy on the other hand made herself righttt at home day one :)"

Thank you so much for being an incredible foster Marina!

For someone ready to enter treatment, there can be one heartbreaking question standing in their way:

What will happen to my pet?

That’s why we created our Substance Use Recovery Program — to make sure no one has to choose between getting the help they need and keeping the pet they love.

Knowing that PAWS NY can remove that barrier and give someone the chance to focus on their recovery without losing their pet is one of the things I’m most proud of.

Since launching the program in 2023, we have provided more than 4,600 days of care for New Yorkers’ pets. This year alone, we’ve supported 18 people and 25 pets and provided nearly 2,000 days of care.

We’re just $5,400 away from reaching our goal and unlocking the match. Can you help us close the gap?

Peace of mind that your pet is safe and cared for can make a huge difference. In fact, studies show that completion rates for drug and alcohol treatment increase by 38% when individuals know their pets are safe. Right now eligible gifts made before Sep 24 will be doubled! Help us unlock the $10,000 match to help people and their pets. With your help, we can keep families together — one person and one pet at a time.

For many pet guardians, fear of losing a beloved companion can delay, or even prevent, the decision to enter treatment.

At PAWS NY, we believe that worrying about a beloved pet shouldn’t stand in the way when someone is ready for treatment.

That’s why we launched our Substance Use Recovery Program in 2023 — to remove one heartbreaking barrier to recovery.

Since then, we’ve provided more than 4,600 days of foster care, keeping pets safe and loved while their guardians focus on healing.

This Recovery Month, we’re looking to grow the community supporting this critical work. Eligible gifts will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $10,000, through September 24.

Recovery shouldn’t mean saying goodbye. Help us unlock the match and double your impact.

Getting the help you need shouldn’t mean losing your pet. ❤️

Through our Substance Use Recovery Program, PAWS NY provides temporary foster care for pets while their guardians enter inpatient treatment—so they can focus on recovery knowing their pets are safe and loved.

Right now, eligible gifts are being matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000. Help us keep more people and pets together.
