Benefit Concert for Ukrainian War Refugees

The students of the Berlin conservatories Universitรคt der Kรผnste (UdK), HfM Hanns Eisler, and Barenboim-Said Akademie have organised a benefit concert for humanitarian aid for the Ukrainian war refugees.

โฐ Sat, March 12 at 6pm
๐Ÿ“UdKโ€™s concert hall (HardenbergstraรŸe 33).

The concert, under the patronage of Claudia Roth, The Minister of State for Culture and the Media, will feature chamber music ensembles and soloists from the three institutions. The full programme will be announced soon. The donations collected will benefit Aktion Deutschland Hilft and Voices of Children.

Edward Said (1935-2003), featured in MPP's "Palestinians Making Their Mark" collection, was a Palestinian-American political activist, scholar, and pioneering literary critic. He is best known for his book Orientalism (1978), and for founding the academic field of post-colonial studies. Born in Jerusalem, he emigrated to the US in 1951, and earned degrees from Princeton and Harvard. Said, who spoke at more than 200 universities during his lifetime, was Americaโ€™s greatest advocate for Palestinian rights and independence, and one of the twentieth centuryโ€™s greatest intellectuals.
