“Why do people wait, even when the door is open?” 🚪

At a recent Freedom and Its Futures conversation, participants reflected on what keeps people from stepping into public life. These conversations aren’t about agreement; they’re about slowing down and rebuilding trust in ordinary places.

Join us for our next conversation on February 11 at the Center for Brooklyn History. 📖

Community Conversations are what they sound like: opportunities for people to meet and talk through issues that shape society.

HNY has hosted them more often in recent months, and a just-wrapped, supersized edition at the New York Public Library to coincide with Banned Books Week serves as an excellent illustration of Why and especially Why now?

🔀🥳It’s Humanities Councils Week!

We’re teaming up with the Mellon Foundation and the Federation of State Humanities Councils to bring stories from the Councils to you.

Millions of people benefit from their state or jurisdiction’s Humanities Council—often
without realizing it. These nonprofits provide key support for cultural programming in the US and its
territories.

Stay tuned throughout the week to learn how Councils are making an impact across the
country, and in the meantime, read more at 🔗 in bio!

Meanwhile, for …. Continuing tomorrow! 🔗

Thanks to those who joined for yesterday’s at Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library. Friends were made, ideas were exchanged, and we even had time to stage a tableau vivant in homage to Langston Hughes’ and Mary Oliver’s poetry 🎨

The program resumes tomorrow with meetups over George Orwell and The Beatles, Nina Simone, and The Rolling Stones. RSVP to save a seat! 🔗
