Kyrenia Opera mourns the passing of the legend Ernie Anastos — a remarkable man whose warmth, generosity, and grace touched everyone who knew him. We were deeply honored that he so kindly accepted to serve as Master of Ceremonies for our “Immortal – Mikis Theodorakis” gala on June 11, 2022. His presence elevated the evening, and his support for our mission meant more than words can express.

Ernie’s passing is a profound loss not only to his family, but also for the countless people he inspired through his distinguished career in journalism, his philanthropic spirit, and his unwavering dedication to public service. His influence extended far beyond any single field, reaching audiences, colleagues, and communities across New York and around the world.

Ernie will be truly and deeply missed.

With heartfelt sympathy and sincere condolences,

Kyrenia Opera

With vision, knowledge, and passion, he elevated symphonic and choral art, opened new pathways for orchestras and emerging artists in Cyprus, inspiring generations of musicians and contributing decisively to the creation of the country’s modern musical heritage.

On June 28, 2025, something truly magical happened in the heart of Vienna as we gathered for "Giuseppe Verdi & Mikis Theodorakis: Legenden im Konzert". From the thunderous arias of “La Forza del Destino” and “Otello” to the stirring melodies of “Axion Esti” and “Romiosini”, the evening was a breathtaking journey through two musical worlds that speak to the human spirit across generations.

The voices of Anastasia Michailidi, Zoe Nicolaidou, Klemen Val Mihelčič, and Andreas Kinu soared through the hall, joined by the Kyrenia Opera Chamber Orchestra and Children’s Chorus, all under the baton of Constantinos Yiannoudes.

But what truly made the night unforgettable was you—our warm, welcoming audience and supporters. Your energy, your applause, your presence lit up the room and reminded us why we do what we do.
