Last week, I had the incredible honor of receiving the Smith/Wellstone Award at the Montclair State University Legislative Breakfast.
To be recognized in a space that brings together policymakers, advocates, educators, and community leaders was deeply meaningful, not just personally, but for the work and communities I represent every day.
The Smith/Wellstone Award represents a commitment to courage, advocacy, and advancing policies that center people, especially those too often unheard.
Thanks to Montclair State University for creating a platform where dialogue meets action, and where legislative engagement is grounded in real stories and real impact.
This award is not just a milestone; it serves as a reminder of our responsibility.
We must continue:
• Building survivor-centered policies
• Strengthening partnerships between community organizations and lawmakers
• Ensuring accountability that supports healing
• Creating spaces where dignity and empowerment lead
It's always amazing to be in the company of phenomenal people and orgs such as Gina Cavallo, NJ Coalition Against Human Trafficking, Alicia Tappan, Angela V. McKnight, It's a Penalty, Lerina Bright, and many others.
The work continues.
