Would you like to increase Curbside Composting participation in your large residential building or complex? Want to comply with the composting mandate but don’t know where to start? We can help! 

The Zero Waste Outreach (ZWO) team at GrowNYC provides free Curbside Composting education and technical support to NYC residential buildings with 30+ units. We offer presentations to residents, tenant associations, co-op boards, and maintenance staff, as well as door-to-door outreach, lobby tabling, and compost givebacks. Discover the power of herbs at GrowNYC’s Teaching Garden on Governors Island. 🌿

Join us tomorrow, Saturday, October 17, from 2–3:30 PM for an afternoon of hands-on learning as we harvest fresh herbs, prepare and taste herbal teas, and explore traditional herbal preparations and their potential benefits for physical and emotional well-being.

Come connect with the plants growing around us and learn new ways to incorporate herbs into your daily routine.

Access to fresh, nutritious food starts with community.

Today, GrowNYC joined our partners at the Northeast Bronx YMCA, alongside Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie (Carl E. Heastie), Senator Jamaal T. Bailey (Jamaal T. Bailey), and Council Member Kevin C. Riley (Council Member Kevin C. Riley), for a free food distribution supporting Bronx families.

Through Food for Families, we’re working with trusted community organizations to bring fresh, regionally grown produce directly to New Yorkers at no cost. At the heart of this work is the GrowNYC Wholesale Food Hub in Hunts Point (GrowNYC Wholesale), the Bronx, which connects a network of more than 300 regional partners and suppliers to move fresh food from local farms to the communities that need it.

As cuts to SNAP and other food assistance programs put additional pressure on households, these partnerships are more important than ever. By supporting regional family farmers and working alongside organizations rooted in their communities, we’re helping more New Yorkers access fresh food while strengthening the local food system we all depend on.

Thank you to the Northeast Bronx YMCA (Northeast Bronx YMCA), our elected officials, and everyone working alongside us to nourish and support our neighbors.

CALLING ALL CHEFS - restaurant chefs, private chefs, freelance chefs! Join us for Culinary Industry Night, a reception for the chefs of our city, hosted by The Libi Project in collaboration with GrowNYC. If you work in food, this night is for you.

The GrowNYC Teaching Garden on Governors Island recently donated its harvest to feedthepeople_bedstuy, a Food Not Bombs chapter, sharing an abundance of carrots, beets, daikon radish, eggplant, hot peppers, basil, lettuce, arugula, and more.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re celebrating the generations of Hispanic farmers whose knowledge, traditions, and hard work have helped shape Greenmarket, and New York’s food system.

In 2000, GrowNYC launched the New Farmer Development Project to support immigrants with agricultural experience in building farm businesses across the region. Its first training program, La Nueva Siembra, welcomed aspiring farmers from across Latin America, helping them turn generations of farming knowledge into thriving farm businesses.

Today, many of the Hispanic-owned farms in our Greenmarket network are graduates of La Nueva Siembra. They grow culturally significant foods, connect New York’s immigrant communities to the crops and traditions they know and love, and help keep hundreds of acres of regional farmland in production.

As Greenmarket marks 50 years, we’re proud to honor the Hispanic farmers whose contributions are woven into its history - and whose work continues to shape its future. 🌱
