We were very happy to give testimony at NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission today in support of an individual landmark designation for Church of Saint Mary along with Lower East Side Preservation Initiative, local residents and others. Our testimony remembered the difficult circumstances faced by the Irish who immigrated to the Lower East Side in the 19th century, most of whom were women aged between 15 and 24.

It's 17 years since our first Feis Teamhra: A Turn at Tara to which we were honoured to welcome the poet Seamus Heaney twice and the historian and activist Muireann Ní Bhrolcháin many times. Feis Teamhra grew from a 2007 event on the steps of New York's Irish Consulate protesting the Irish government's plans for the M3 Motorway that now cuts through the valley. You're welcome to join us this Sunday at the Visitor's Centre on the Hill of Tara for our annual free event celebrating prose, poetry and song in the home of the Irish bardic tradition and the harp.
