Anthony Collins, a 41-year-old father from Seaside Heights, New Jersey, was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter for fatally punching Robert May, 70, who had repeatedly hurled racial slurs at Collins and his children.

On September 18, 2023, Collins struck May during an encounter in Seaside Heights, causing May to fall from his bicycle and hit his head on the pavement.

May suffered severe blunt-force injuries and passed away on October 1, 2023. Collins surrendered to authorities weeks later on October 15, 2023.

Defense records noted that May had harassed Collins and his children by repeatedly using the N-word and other racial slurs toward them over a period of months.

Collins pleaded guilty to manslaughter in June 2024.

He received a three-year sentence in state prison under the No Early Release Act, meaning he is required to serve roughly 31 months (about 85% of the term) before becoming eligible for parole.

During the proceedings, officials and the court emphasized that despite the extreme provocation and persistent racial harassment, physical retaliation was legally unjustified, and the appropriate recourse for dealing with the harassment should have involved contacting law enforcement rather than physical violence.

When Tyler James Williams' two younger brothers came out, one of them said the way the Abbott Elementary star handled it "should be studied."

The public praise came in June 2023. Williams, who celebrates his 34th birthday this week, had just been through a round of internet sleuths combing his behavior for "clues" that he was gay. He said he isn't - and then explained why the hunt itself was the problem: it makes everyday conversations feel less safe for gay people and anyone still questioning.

Then his brothers Tyrel and Tylen spoke up. Both had come out to him, and both gave him the credit. Tyrel said Tyler had completely deconstructed his own ideas of masculinity and built a space where they could be seen until they were ready to tell anyone else.

Tyler's reply under Tylen's post was shorter: "I love you kid and I'll drag anyone to hell for you."
