President's Corner, WFWP USA Newsletter
Dear friend,
To celebrate and commemorate Women's History Month in March here in the United States of America--to highlight, honor and recognize the great contributions women and mothers have made throughout history--is a great step indeed, as recognition of women's value has been absent for so long in human history!
However, on this occasion I would like to point out that there is another side to this commemoration. Many women, especially those affected by the extremism of the women's liberation movement, feel that in order to be equal with men they have to become like men! WFWP promotes a considerably different philosophy, as expressed in the words of our founder, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon:
"Men and women don't need to struggle with each other, because they do not need to imitate the characteristics, dispositions, or roles of the other. It is not necessary to confront, compete with, or covet the things of the other or take them by force. Instead, by giving what one has to the other, with true love, and by completing the other, they can become united as a greater whole and share in a relationship of joint ownership."
-Women as a Turning Point, October 27, 2013, Las Vegas
In today's "era of women," it is important to understand our true value and role as intended by our Creator--in whose image we are created--which is not to be in competition with men but to help round them out. As I always say: 'We are not here to compete, but to complete one another!' Peace will not come about through domination by either one or the other gender but rather when both can work together in harmony.
Happily, there are a growing number of gentlemen who recognize the value of women's equal participation and crucial role in resolving our social ills from the local to the global level. As one gentleman noted in the most recent International Leadership Conference, held in Seoul, Korea last month and entitled "Toward a New Paradigm for Peace and Development": Women need to be an "integral part and at the core of the paradigm shift toward lasting peace!" (see article that follows). This is real hope for change!
WFWP's ongoing events around the country, throughout the year and also during Women's History Month are always conducted in that spirit. More about our Women's History Month activities in next month's issue.
Happy Women's History Month and happy spring 2014!
With love,
Angelika Selle
