We are normalizing self care for students during the day at school. We are creating wellness pods in ideal spaces throughout the school so that students can access therapeutic support at any given time. Within this space they could engage with therapeutic visual, auditory and physical supports as well as request counseling from our team.
We are also thinking through, with the guidance team about, the creation of a “wellness pass", similar to a bathroom pass, that students can sign out if they become overwhelmed during class.
As many of us know, often students request a bathroom pass when they need a wellness break. We think that as student re-enter the building, with their pandemic experiences, students may need wellness breaks more often and may use bathroom breaks to get relief. By asking students to choose a bathroom pass or wellness pass we could track and support students who request wellness passes with a brief check in call and also track the frequency in which an individual student requests a pass as well as classes that have a higher request rate. This will allow us to create more wrap-around services for students.
*HUGE shout out to Brooke who invested her time, design talents, and social work practice in internationally procuring all elements of this space with our students and their mental and emotional needs in mind 🙌🏽

We have been brainstorming about ways that we can support teachers as they bravely face this new school teaching environment. So we decided that with teacher input, we will create a personalized rejuvenation space in the classroom for them to rest and reset. Each teacher, will have an opportunity for a 1:1 session to talk about their stressors during the day and then create a plan to reduce the load by adding elements that they can use to ground and recharge their body, mind and spirits during the day at school in between classes.

Our teacher charging stations include:
✅ Something visual,
✅ Something tactile,
✅ An aroma
✅ An individualized audio playlist

We may not be able to take all the stress away from their day… but we are able to create a nurturing space where each teacher can charge up between classes, during lunch and anytime they feel like their battery is running low.
Please DM us if you would like to create teacher charging stations for your teaching staff 💫

With the publicity of inequities within the United States, there was an emerging request from students to have counseling integrate with ways to activate for social change as a therapeutic, skill-based, solution-focused, coping strategy.

To address this, CRP, created a strengths-based approach to integrating counseling, meditation, mindfulness and social justice activation in a 7-module activation curriculum for students. This curriculum teaches students how to activate their unique leadership to address contemporary concerns.

Over 7 modules, we Integrated counseling, meditation, mindfulness and social justice and introduced ways to manage daily stressors and challenges that interrupt learning. The curriculum allows students to learn how to safeguard their mental health while thriving through the complicated influences of social unrest, public, personal and school stressors.

The principals learnt over 7-modules are invaluable in their personal development and future academic ventures. We hope you find value in this recap.

Dr. Nadine Burke-Harris’ research indicates that “Educators can deliver the daily doses of healing interactions that truly are the antidote to toxic stress...the cumulative dose of healing nurturing interactions is most healing” In this new socially distant climate we have to rethink how WE (educators, counselors, school staff) are going to provide support for students within our care who are suffering from toxic stress, social emotional challenges, trauma and mental health concerns. With the absence of the ability to use healing touch, or reassurance through a hug what are we putting into place to support students who may benefit from healing touch?
