Bend the Arc CEO testified before Congress today about antisemitism, Jewish safety, and the well-being of our community.

As Republicans use bad-faith hearings on antisemitism to attack their opponents, free speech, democracy, immigrants, and (in today’s hearing) healthcare unions(!), we refuse to let Jewish safety be a pretext for harmful policies that threaten Jews and our neighbors. We will not let antisemitism, or our fear, be used as a smokescreen to advance a dangerous, authoritarian agenda.

Antisemitism is a real threat. And we can and must dismantle it alongside all other hatreds — and without eroding the multiracial democracy that keeps Jews, and all of us, safe.

A Shabbat Reflection: The Supreme Court is Afraid of our Votes

In the Mishnah, Pirkei Avot reminds us to “not only look at the vessel, but what’s inside it.”

Make no mistake: the ruling this week by a conservative majority Supreme Court is devastating. But when we look inside the vessel, we see that it also means they fear our votes.

The Voting Rights Act is celebrated not only for protecting voting rights, but as a pillar of desegregation. Attacks on that pillar are an attack on our right to vote today. This ruling is a flagrant act of resegregation.

By targeting Black voters across the South, the regime and its enablers look to favor, in every aspect of life, one type of American over every single other. And for them, that American must be right-wing, Christian, wealthy, and white.

Stripping away voting rights has a single goal: ensuring voters can’t exercise their power no matter how much money Republicans steal from our kitchen tables to distribute to billionaires or how much violence and bigotry they fuel to divide us.

It’s easy to witness acts like this and feel disempowered. That’s their aim. But this decision is also an admission that they fear our power. They fear our votes.

This Shabbat we mourn the harm this decision will create, and we commit all the more to fight for every vote, protect every election, and schlep people to the polls. We will fight so that no matter what obstruction they throw at us, the true American majority will win. Because only then can we begin to rebuild and fulfill this nation’s promise: a country that is safe for all and where everyone can thrive.

✊10 rabbis were arrested (along with two pastors) protesting ICE outside 26 Federal Plaza in New York City yesterday after blocking traffic in front of ICE offices.

They were protesting ICE’s cruelty, including abductions of our neighbors, denial of due process, and deadly conditions of ICE detention centers. They are also protesting corporate complicity with ICE’s deportation machine, as well as calling for the passage of New York For All, which would prohibit state and local government agencies from colluding with ICE.
This protest was part of yesterday's national Jews Demand: ICE OUT! Day of Action across the country, led by T'ruah and Bend the Arc. Over 70 co-sponsoring Jewish organizations are joining together, at actions in 17 cities around the US, to represent American Jewish consensus that we REJECT this cruel immigration system.

Our collective safety depends on it.

Jews Demand: ICE OUT! Hundreds of Jewish Americans mobilized around the country yesterday against ICE’s deportation machine. Rooted in our Jewish values and traditions, we took action against ICE’s cruel abductions, deadly detention centers, and corporate collaborators.

Hundreds of Jews demanding in one voice: ICE OUT!

Led by T'ruah and Bend the Arc, we gathered, sang, prayed, and sounded the shofar because we know that threats to immigrant safety are threats to all of our safety.

✊10 rabbis were arrested (along with two pastors) protesting ICE outside 26 Federal Plaza in New York City yesterday after blocking traffic in front of ICE offices.

This powerful protest capped a mass mobilization of over 200 Jews in New York, as part of the national Jews Demand: ICE OUT! Day of Action led by T'ruah and Bend the Arc. Across 17 cities, and with more than 70 co-sponsoring Jewish organizations, American Jews took to the streets to demand an end to ICE’s cruelty and the corporate collaboration that enables it.

In New York, the action also called for the passage of New York For All, which would prohibit state and local government agencies from colluding with ICE.

As Jews, we know that the deadly ICE deportation machine is a threat to all of our safety.
