Our Story
Our Mission We empower women and girls who are marginalized, to improve their health and well-being, influence decisions in their communities, and connect to networks for support. We teach them to utilize their skills, knowledge, and resources to uplift their lives and others.
What We Do With over fifteen years of on-the-ground experience working with women in the Caribbean, Guyana-South America and the USA, WOMI understands that a multi-level program addressing the cultural, social and economic empowerment of women is the most effective approach for growth and sustainable change.
Leadership With volunteer staff and trainers, local, regional and international, our team is united in a belief that stronger women build stronger communities and nations. Our team is committed to helping women achieve their goals and realize their dreams, by listening to and working directly with them to ensure our programs respond to their needs. Since its inception, WOMI has advocated and worked with women at home in Guyana and abroad, we serve women and girls by offering support, and access to life-changing skills through our Know Your Purpose (KYP) and Our Daughters Leadership Academy (ODLA) series of workshops, seminars, vocational scholarships and business initiatives to move them from crisis and poverty to stability and economic self-sufficiency. In an effort to holistically address the issues and problems facing our communities we have started a conversation with men and boys, we know that men and women, boys and girls must understand their role in their homes, communities, school and workplace. To provide young men and boys with the tools to succeed, we created a Boys to Men Mentoring Program (BMMP) teaching them the value of teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, life and resiliency skills. Through our Professional Development Programs we fuse counseling with enhancement and advancement skills in a friendly, comfortable and non-judgmental environment.
