Kids Helping Kids: a hip hop experience

Kids Helping Kids: a hip hop experience KIDS HELPING KIDS: A HIP HOP EXPERIENCE We first educate the kids on Kool Herc, the founder of hip hop and his original mission. Rhyming is not hip hop.

KHK is an after school program I designed to give children the unique opportunity to provide clean water to children in africa and Haiti while being creative through the beautiful art of hip hop. He started hip hop to reach the youth in his neighborhood the south bronx. Hip hop was to served as a positive and creative outlet to promote peace and unity. It was an alternative to the gang and street

life that was destroying his peers. Gangs quickly joined the movement and began to battle through break dancing and rhyming. Hip hop was saving lives from it's conceptiion. We teach them that hip hop is a culture with 5 different elements; Djing, rhyming, break dancing, graffiti and fashion. What is one the radio is simply othe rhyming element of hip hop. However the majority of it contradicts its original purpose by promoting negativity, hate and violence. Therefore this music is simply rap. Rap was around way beofre hip hop. It was popular in music many years before and in other forms such as nursery rhymes. Even the way we are taught to learn our ABC's is in a rhyme form. HIP HOP IS A POSITIVE ARTISTIC CULTURE DESIGNED TO PROMOTE PEACE AND UNITY IN ITS COMMUNITY

Rotary Club for Global Action is sponsoring an Interact club (young humanitarians between the age of 12 and 18) in Nigeria and we have organized a Zoom call between them and Interactors in The Bay Area in order for them to discuss collaborating on an environmental project.

The call is scheduled to take place on October 14th 7 AM PT, (which will be 3PM in Nigeria) and we would like to invite all young humanitarians passionate about environmental projects to join.

Anniela Carracedo, who was part of the Youth Advisory Committee, will be present to help facilitate the conversation.

We are excited to open this space for our young humanitarians to speak and for us to learn, because we not only see them as the future but also as the present.
