Our services transform how educators work together at urban public schools, helping the most effective teachers develop the skills they need to lead their peers and drive school-wide improvement. We also partner with school leadership to create a work environment that equips teachers to succeed in the classroom. Positive change comes when teachers are positioned to be leaders. We help make that happen. We build the capacity of a core group of teachers to lead and deepen the instructional practice of their colleagues. Our mission is to develop and retain great teachers, and measurably increase their ability to give students in urban public schools an excellent education.

Our CEO, Dr. Carolyne Quintana, is headed to EDTECH WEEK Conference & Festival!

On Wednesday, October 14, she’ll join leaders from Brisk Teaching, Owl Ventures, and Claude by Anthropic for a conversation about the future of AI in education and the importance of intentional technology use.

Today is , a day dedicated to putting charitable dollars to work!

DAFs, or donor-advised funds, are charitable giving accounts that let people set aside money and recommend grants to nonprofits they care about.

Students spend 990 hours in the classroom every year. A grant to Teaching Matters helps make those hours count through coaching that strengthens teaching and learning, from giving Pre-K learners a strong start to helping older students build essential literacy and math skills.

One week later, and we’re still feeling the energy from our 2026 Back to School Party!

Last week, friends and supporters came together for an unforgettable night of music and purpose, hosted by Teaching Matters board members Sonny Kalsi and Tim Johnson, with a special performance by the legendary Rev Run!

Together, we raised $1 million to help strengthen teaching and learning in schools, including the critical work of helping more students become strong, confident readers.

Students spend about 990 hours in school each year. At Teaching Matters, we’re working to make sure every one of those hours counts by helping educators create high-quality classrooms where students can thrive.

For more than 30 years, we’ve supported 50,000+ educators and impacted 750,000+ students, and we’re just getting started.

We’re celebrating a Trailblazer!

Congratulations to our CEO, Dr. Carolyne Quintana, on being named a City & State NY 2026 Latino Trailblazer!

A lifelong educator and system leader, Dr. Quintana has spent more than two decades working to expand access to high-quality learning experiences for students, from her beginnings as a teacher and school leader in the Bronx to leading major instructional initiatives across NYC Public Schools.

As she marks her first year leading Teaching Matters, we’re grateful for the experience, vision and commitment she brings to our organization and even prouder to see her leadership and impact recognized in this way.

And we’re back! 
Today, we wrapped a week of connection and preparation as Teaching Matters coaches and staff came together for our September Coaching Institute to officially launch the 2026-27 school year! 
We welcomed new and returning coaches, and together, we kicked off a year of building community, learning from one another, deepening our practice, and partnering with our amazing school and education partners! 
Now, we’re ready to get to work! Here’s to a great year ahead!
