Yesterday, we launched CEO's 30th Anniversary Campaign honoring people, partners, and communities who have helped make this work possible.

Since 1996, CEO has championed the power of employment to change the trajectory of a person's life after incarceration. Today, that work continues to grow, grounded in evidence and driven by the belief that everyone returning home deserves access to opportunity.

With Opportunity 2030, we're building on that legacy, unlocking $175 million in federal funding and expanding our reach to 25,000 more people in its first year.

After decades of developing reentry and diversion programs for people returning home from incarceration, CEO’s Executive Vice President will now bring that experience to his role as Chair of the New York City Board of Correction.

At a pivotal moment for New York City’s jails, Chris will help oversee the city’s correctional facilities, support the transition away from Rikers Island, and work alongside partners across the criminal legal system to strengthen safety and accountability.

More than 600,000 people return home from incarceration each year ready to work and contribute to their communities. Yet many face barriers to training, credentials, and employment that can make that transition harder than it needs to be.

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) is the largest source of federal funding for workforce development in the country, but justice-impacted individuals remain largely underserved.

As Congress considers reauthorizing WIOA, there’s an opportunity to make sure workforce investments reach the people who need them, including through transitional jobs, skills training, and stronger reentry employment programs.

For people returning home from incarceration, rebuilding a life comes with enough barriers. Access to healthcare shouldn’t be another one.

CEO Los Angeles participant Charlie shares his experience navigating Medi-Cal after incarceration and his concerns about proposed work requirements that could tie healthcare coverage to 80 hours of work or volunteering each month.

People returning home have just three months before these requirements could apply. But securing vital documents, finding employment, and navigating essential services can take much longer.

CEO Oakland hosted an 8-hour Guard Card training, giving 15 participants the opportunity to earn a certification that can open doors to employment in the security field!

The training provided participants with foundational knowledge on the power to arrest, appropriate use of force, and the legal and ethical responsibilities of working as an unarmed security officer in California.

For people building their careers after coming home, access to industry-recognized credentials can help create pathways to stable employment and greater economic opportunity.

We’re proud to share that CEO's Executive Vice President Christopher Watler has been appointed Chair of the New York City Board of Correction!

Chris brings decades of leadership in reentry, criminal justice reform, workforce development, and community-based solutions to this role. Throughout his career, he has worked to challenge systems that too often leave justice-impacted New Yorkers behind and to expand opportunities for people returning home from incarceration.

As Chair, Chris will help lead the Board’s independent oversight of New York City’s jails, working alongside Board members, city agencies, advocates, staff, and other partners to advance safer and more humane conditions for people in the city’s care.

We’re incredibly proud to see Chris bring his experience, perspective, and commitment to public service to this important role.

CEO Los Angeles was thrilled to host an information session with Modern Times Inc. representative Veronica, connecting CEO participants with employment opportunities and pathways to quality careers.

Led by Job Developer Kayla Lopez, the session highlighted roles connected to the major Los Angeles Convention Center expansion project and gave participants an opportunity to learn directly from an employer about available opportunities.
