Founded on April 11, 2011 the Arte Institute is a non-profit organization based in New York that promotes culture and showcases art from Portugal. It is a space that offers a creative environment for Portuguese artists in the field of art, literature, music, dance and cinema.

NY Portuguese Short Film Festival ’26 – Submissions Ongoing

The Arte Institute is currently accepting submissions for the 2026 edition of the NY Portuguese Short Film Festival, showcasing the best of Portuguese cinema worldwide. Eligible applicants include Portuguese filmmakers, production companies with films by Portuguese directors, and students.

Requirements:
• Short films up to 18 min, produced in 2024–2026
• Any genre
• English and/or Portuguese subtitles

Submissions:
Ongoing from Nov 20, 2025 to Mar 5, 2026 via the online form.
Fees: €15 → €20 → €25 (depending on submission date).
Free for students and NYPSFF 2025 participants.

After payment, please send your film (private link + password) to: [email protected]

Selections will be announced in April 2026, with the premiere in New York, followed by an international tour.

From November 5, 2025 to January 5, 2026, at the Rio de Janeiro International Airport – Galeão, travelers and visitors will discover works by artists from Portugal’s West region, celebrating the creativity and contemporaneity of Portuguese art across the Atlantic.

The Arte Institute and the RHI Initiative present “Contemporary Portugal in Brazil”, a program celebrating Portuguese creativity and artistic innovation abroad.
From November 2025 to January 2026, Brazilian audiences will experience the best of Portuguese contemporary music, dance, visual arts, and cinema through a series of performances, exhibitions, and screenings across several cities in Brazil.

This project strengthens the cultural ties between Portugal and Brazil, fostering artistic dialogue and exchange among Portuguese-speaking creators.

Dancing Villa is a contemporary dance performance inspired by Heitor Villa-Lobos, celebrating the strength, poetry, and diversity of Brazilian culture.



Directed by Nicole Vanoni and choreographed by Rosa Antuña, the Curitiba Dance Company brings to Portugal a living tribute to the spirit of Brazil.��

The Arte Institute presents CORação – Colours of the Heart by award-winning photographer Nico Trinkhaus, now on display at the Arrivals area of Lisbon Airport.

Part of the Arte Box project, the exhibition explores how colour and emotion intertwine through nine photographs inspired by Portugal’s light, colours, and landscapes.

This event is an initiative of the Arte Institute, supported by the DGACCP, the Consulate General of Portugal in New York, FLAD, and NYPALC – New York Portuguese American Leadership Council.
