Throwback on L'Événement with La Comédie Française 🎭📚
On Thursday, September 24, the Cultural Center had the great honor of welcoming Françoise Gillard and La Comédie-Française for a performance of L’Événement, adapted from the Nobel Prize-winning work by Annie Ernaux.
Françoise Gillard delivered a powerful and moving performance, followed by a Q&A with the public and animated by Florence Gatte, Director of the Cultural Center at the Lycée Français de New York.
The conversation explored the importance of this work as a testimony to a time when women had little control over their own bodies, and the continued need to shed light on these experiences and to educate and raise awareness around these issues today.

Jeudi 24 septembre, le Centre Culturel a eu le grand honneur d’accueillir Françoise Gillard et la Comédie-Française pour une représentation de L’Événement, adapté de l’œuvre d’Annie Ernaux, lauréate du prix Nobel de littérature.
Françoise Gillard a livré une interprétation puissante et bouleversante, suivie d’un échange avec le public et animé par Florence Gatte, Directrice du Centre Culturel du Lycée Français de New York.
La discussion a permis de revenir sur l’importance de cette œuvre comme témoignage d’une époque où les femmes disposaient de peu de contrôle sur leur propre corps, ainsi que sur la nécessité, aujourd’hui encore, de continuer à mettre en lumière ces expériences, à transmettre et à sensibiliser sur ces enjeux.
