Dr. King taught us to dream beyond what we could see and to organize toward what we could build. At Movin’ Legacy, we honor that legacy through embodied knowledge, cultural stewardship, and the daily practice of preservation, cultivation, and celebration. The dream lives in the body, in community, and in how we carry each other forward. Teachers Ft. Papa Assane Konte, Jeffrey Page, Yama, Ishmael Kouyate, Malong Bayo Baka llama dance Company, Dr. Terrance Lake, Papa N’Diaye, Dioncounda N’Diaye and Regina Perry-Carr.

Djinafoli is a Malian communal ceremony: spirit-making: djina/djen (spiritual energy) + foli (to make/create/practice). The music, the dance, the gathering; everyone participates in shaping the moment where the unseen can be felt, witnessed, and worked with through rhythm.

So in this season, my invitation is simple: do the inner work that keeps you open and steady. Because when you’re clear, you can hear what spirit (God, Universe, Angels-whatever name you call the divine) is saying, before it has to repeat itself louder. Pay attention to the messages that arrive as guidance, as caution, as “turn left instead of right.” Sometimes the message is protection. Sometimes it’s instruction. Sometimes it’s the difference between harm and safety.

This is connectivity in motion.

Dancer,Shatina Edwards, embodies African-American beauty,
the swag, the presence, the inherited knowing carried forward through movement.
What we’re witnessing is a declaration of heritage
that is held, shaped, and expressed through the body. class: Pape Moussa Sonko/Ndaje Festival Boston

Some knowledge can’t be Googled. It has to be witnessed, repeated, and received. Sitting at the feet of the elders is how we learn what to keep, what to protect, and what to pass on with integrity. Passing the torch means ensuring the lineage doesn’t get held so tightly it can’t be carried forward. Our generation is brilliant, and the next is, too. What becomes possible when we choose trust, documentation, and shared responsibility, together?

What you’re witnessing here is a multigenerational, multiracial collective in motion. Under the guidance of Pape Mousa Sonko at Ndaje Fest Boston, bodies move together in rhythm, care, joy and unity.

Throughout 2026 and beyond, this kind of togetherness reminds us that community is built when each person shows up and does their part to the best of their ability. Holding the line together, celebrating differences, across generations; is how we sustain one another, strengthen the whole, and move forward with clarity and purpose. Some knowledge can’t be Googled. It has to be witnessed, repeated, and received. Sitting at the feet of the elders is how we learn what to keep, what to protect, and what to pass on…with integrity. Passing the torch means sharing the information, naming the source, and making sure the next generation doesn’t have to start from scratch. Credits pending

Whether people realize it or not, a dance company is more than performance, it’s a home for lineage, discipline, and collective care. When it’s rooted in intention, it protects the source and uplifts the people. Dance Company: Les Ballet de Matam. Conakry, Guinea

Djenafoli Is a communal ceremony done in Mali, West Africa. Djen: a potent, spiritual energy or force. Foli: to make, create, or practice to do rhythm. Put together. Djenafoli means making a spiritual energy not just observing it. In Djenafoli, we remember that the spirits are never far away. They’re always around us, looking for ways to communicate, protect, and remind us that we’re held. The rhythm, the circle, the breath …all of it helps us slip into a kind of zen, an openness, so we can actually hear what spirit has been saying all along.
