The recently published an article about renewed talks of decentralization in Haiti and its relevance to business owners (read: local economies).
Decentralization is this and so much more. This may read as shade, but it’s not. Read it again, but nicer. :-)
Centralization of resources and power perpetuates poverty, oppression and marginalization. Physical proximity increases access, holds politicians culpable and creates more fruitful opportunities. Centralization is also a large part of the reason why Port Au Prince is overpopulated--like overpopulated overpopulated. Decentralization is an integral step to development and equity in Haiti.
This is also a large part of the reason we focus our international efforts in Leogane, Haiti.
