“Do everything as far as you can for love and you will see what you are capable of! One can make more progress this way in a year, than in ten by the way of fear.” - Saint Mary Euphrasia

April 24th marks the feast day of Saint Mary Euphrasia, foundress of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd and guiding light for the work of Good Shepherd Volunteers. GSV was founded by the Sisters in 1992 to bring young people into their work serving women, children, and families affected by poverty, violence, and neglect around the world. While GSVs draw inspiration from her vision throughout the year, we spend Saint Mary Euphrasia's feast day focused on her call to "Just Love" as we look toward a brighter future.

Happy SMEast Day! 🐑

Our volunteers use the power of "just love" to address poverty, abuse, and neglect throughout the country and the world. In 2026, we're opening new placement sites, bringing in new supervisors, and shepherding the next cohort of changemakers. We can't do this alone; our community makes this work possible.
Join us on Wednesday, May 6th to celebrate new beginnings and support the next cohort of advocates at our 2026 Spring Benefit in NYC.

Today we enter the season of Lent.

Ash Wednesday invites us into prayer, reflection, and renewal of heart. As we begin this Lenten journey, we hold these words from Pope Leo XIV close:

“Let us strive to make our communities places where the cry of those who suffer finds welcome, and listening opens paths towards liberation, making us ready and eager to contribute to building a civilization of love.”

May this season deepen our commitment to community, where listening leads to compassion, action, and justice ✝️

"I am beyond proud of my Boise State family for continuing the work for Dr. King, and even though I could not participate in this year's MLK event, I am always watching from afar." Charles Jones, GSV 2025-2026

Charles currently serves as a GSV with the Good Shepherd Services team in Public Policy & Advocacy, but as a student at Boise State, he held the role of Martin Luther King Jr Living Legacy Committee Chair, leading his team in their annual MLK Day of Greatness celebration. This year, Charles attended and supported the event virtually from NYC!
