๐T1D Warrior of the Week: Teagan๐โ
โ
โI signed up for my daughter. Teagan was diagnosed with T1D at 9 years old. She is first and foremost a ballerina, but had begun her first year as an artistic swimmer. She was beginning to lose weight and was tired a LOT. When she was little, she was anemic. We thought that maybe she was just working too hard, and was becoming anemic again as well. Turns out that she was in DKA. After a few days in the hospital, she was ready to return to school, and athletics. School came first, and then within a month she was back to ballet and artistic swim. Two months after diagnosis, she was back to all day clinics, and three months after diagnosis, she attended her first competition of the season. She is by far a fighter, even when it has been really tough. It took dozens of trial and error with different adhesives, underpatches, and overpatches for her to even tolerate wearing a CGM. Even the most sensitive adhesives and patches would cause her skin to burn and blister. But after seven months we found the solution AND started on an insulin pump, giving her more freedom from mom and dad. She fights a fight no one ever sees each and everyday. She gets frustrated that she can't be โnormalโ, but at the same time she doesn't let it stop her. She never ceases to amaze me.โ

๐ Stories like Teagan's are the impetus behind our cure advocacy work. Your stories are a reminder that we must keep fighting until a cure is found.โ
