Catherine Schuyler Chapter, NSDAR

Catherine Schuyler Chapter, NSDAR The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) was founded in 1890 by Miss Eugenia Washington, Mrs. Ellen Walworth, Mrs. Mary S.

Lockwood, and Miss Mary Desha. The DAR is headquartered in Washington, District of Columbia, at 1776 D Street NW. We are a non-political and non-profit volunteer women's service organization. We promote education, patriotism, and historic preservation.

The Catherine Schuyler Chapter, NSDAR, was chartered on February 8, 1897 and was officially organized on June 12, 1897 in Belmont, NY. The chapt

er was named in grateful remembrance of Catherine Schuyler, wife of General Philip Schuyler, who was conspicuous by position and character in Revolutionary times. Catherine Schuyler was born Catrina Van Rensselaer in 1734. She was married to Captain Philip Schuyler in 1755 and died in 1803. The span of her life covered the most interesting period in the early history of the Republic. Membership is open to any woman, at least 18 years of age, who can prove direct lineage to a patriot of the Revolutionary War. Becoming a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution allows you to honor the legacy of your ancestral patriot's quest for freedom. If you think you are descended from a Revolutionary War patriot, we will work with you in your genealogical search with our available resources. As a Daughter of the American Revolution, you have the opportunity to honor our veterans, support historic preservation, promote education, and participate in patriotic activities. If you would like more information on our chapter's activities or how to become a member, please explore our website or contact us through https://catherineschuylernsdar.weebly.com

The Cuba Circulating Library invites you to its Annual Spring Tea on Wednesday, May 27 at 1:00 p.m. This year's program celebrates America 250 with guest speakers from the Catherine Schuyler Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. They will share the stories of Allegany County's Revolutionary War Patriots — including early settlers and those whose descendants made their homes here — and present plans for an upcoming Allegany County Patriots' Monument. Summer events commemorating the nation's founding will also be highlighted. The chapter's Revolutionary Cookbook will be available for purchase for $26, with proceeds benefiting the Monument Fund. The event is free to attend, but space is limited and registration is required. Guests are welcome to bring their own teacup or use one provided — light refreshments will be served. Contact the library at 585-968-1668 or [email protected] to sign up.

The Catherine Schuyler Chapter American Indians committee participated in the Moon Time Bags initiative, through the KWEK Society. One in four students left or missed school because they did not have period products. This project creates and distributes “Moon Time Bags” to young women in schools with a high percentage of Indigenous students.
