Shhh! The Atlantic Beach Secret It's time to reveal the dirty little secret of Atlantic Beach It was positive times for Black folks.

Before the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed, South Carolina's Atlantic Beach was a segregated beach, Blacks were not allowed to stay or frequent other beaches in Myrtle Beach lSouth Carolina. In the 70's, desegregation would offer new opportunities for black tourists, vacationers and businesses. After being enclosed by barriers, they could now experience some of the freedoms they had never ex

perienced before, . However the barriers that closed off Atlantic Beach from its neighboring beaches still exist. There is still no road that connects to this beach, therefore still isolating it from the rest of the beaches in Mytle Beach South Carolina. Atlantic Beach is underdeveloped and appears desolate compared to the other beaches that make up the strip called Ocean Blvd. However, the beach is beautiful and many of the original hotel, store and land owners are still living on the beach. In an attempt to draw attention to this beach full of rich history, we are pledging to raise this issue, desegregate this beach and patch of land, from the rest of the community.
