It's been five years since Hurricane Ida flooded homes across NYC, and the risk hasn't gone away. In high-risk neighborhoods, homeowners have roughly a 1 in 4 chance of flooding over the life of a 30-year mortgage.

There are steps you can take now:

- Find your flood risk with FloodHelpNY.
- Make a plan with a free Flood Risk Check.
- Get help putting that plan into action through programs that can protect your home from floods.

Your roof might be making your building hotter this summer.

Dark, flat rooftops can absorb heat and make indoor spaces harder to cool. NYC CoolRoofs helps eligible buildings get white roof coatings that reflect sunlight instead of absorbing it.

No-cost and low-cost roof coatings may be available. If your building has a flat roof in good condition, it may qualify.

An energy savings kit isn't just for winter.

Small gaps around doors, windows, and window A/C units can let cool air escape and hot air get in.

Summer electric bills can add up fast, especially when the AC is running. Solar may help lower those costs.

There are two options depending on your situation:

If you own your home, rooftop solar may be a fit. Programs like NY-Sun and Barrio Solar can help lower or remove upfront costs. Barrio Solar, available in Brooklyn, targets about 20% savings on monthly energy bills for qualifying homeowners.

If you rent, community solar may work for you. No panels needed. You sign up and get credits on your electric bill from a shared solar project.

A heat pump can cool your home in the summer and heat it in the winter. And help paying for one may be available.

Con Edison customers may qualify for discounts of $2,500 to $10,000. A contractor handles the paperwork and applies the discount to the final installation cost.

This is not a quick fix. But if you want your home to feel better all year, it may be worth it.
