Dear Friends,
We are saddened to announce that, as of December 31st 2014, The Learning Disabilities Association of New York will be closing its doors. However unfortunate the circumstances, we are very proud of the legacy that LDANYC has left behind. Over the past 25 years we have been working hard to ensure the support & success of teens in transition and adults with learning disabilities. We have created a climate of hope and optimism built on positive relationships between a caring staff and our clients. We helped our clients achieve their goals of passing GED exams, college entrance exams and retaining jobs. Our Direct Support and Outreach Programs have provided support to more than 1,000 individuals in the past year alone.
LDA NYC has functioned largely without endowments or large institutional funding, relying mostly on small donations, our clients’ ability to pay for services on a sliding scale and some fee-based services that we have provided for the state and city. In the end, we were unable to attract the kind of big dollar funding needed to sustain our unique one-on-one model. We still strongly believe that the need for such services in New York City is there, and growing, and that the efficacy of our approach is unmatched in outcomes for the clients we serve.
We are tremendously appreciative of the support and patronage from so many individuals that have been integral to the success of the organization. This includes the many donors, volunteers, sponsors and partners that have helped create a significant contribution to our great city and the world of learning disabilities.
With Gratitude,
The LDANYC team.
